Give me your mantras!

Word on the street is- running is more of a mental game than body game. I feel like that is biggest crock of  shit I have ever heard, but I’ll trust these ‘experts.’

Me too, buddy, me too
Me too, buddy, me too

I mean I guess I do believe that it is a mental game. I can recall my first half marathon where I was dying somewhere around mile 9 or 10 debating calling my dad to pick me up because I had chub rub. But, I didn’t. I powered through and finished. I remember telling myself “You’ve got this, take your time. You can do this.” And I did. Not super well or anything but I did it and I was wicked pumped.

This may be the most accurate meme I have ever seen.

As I read advice from some of my favorite blogs and running websites, I realize I need to enter my training with a positive attitude and do this whole positive affirmation thing. I have found a few quotes that I am really digging and may hang up in my office like:

“Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired.”

– George S. Patton, U.S. Army General, 1912 Olympian

“There will be days when I don’t know if I can run a marathon. There will be a lifetime knowing that I have.”

“Remember, the feeling you get from a good run is far better than the feeling you get from sitting around wishing you were running.”

-Sarah Condor, Runner/ Author

“I didn’t come this far to only come this far.”

An NFL investigation has found that New England Patriots employees likely deflated footballs and that quarterback Tom Brady was "at least generally aware" of the rules violations. The 243-page report released Wednesday, May 6, 2015, said league investigators found no evidence that coach Bill Belichick and team management knew of the practice. (AP Photo/Charles Krupa, Pool)
